  • Covid19 Update-Parents of Children on Site this Week

    Tue 30 Jun 2020

    Tuesday 30th June

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Coronavirus Update for Parents of Children on Site this Week

I am writing to advise you that a child who has been in school this week, today developed symptoms which could be Coronavirus. The parents of the children in that 'bubble' (class group) have been contacted already today by phone, and have also now been sent a letter with further advice. However, we wanted to contact parents of all children on site to explain the advice that we have been given by Public Health England and the Local Authority, and to reassure you that we feel we have done everything possible to minimise the risk.

As a precaution we have asked the child’s parents to keep them at home, and take them for a Coronavirus test as soon as possible.

We have been given advice that only the children and staff in that bubble need to stay at home. Other children and staff who are expected in school this week are able to continue attending. I want to assure you that we have been extremely vigilant in keeping our 'bubbles' separate, so there has not been contact between children outside of your child's own group. Each bubble has also had their own rooms/areas allocated to them each week, and have therefore not used the same spaces or resources in school.

However, we recognise that there is a local Leicester lockdown in response to an increase in Coronavirus cases in our City. Therefore, please be vigilant in continuing to look for the symptoms of Coronavirus. These are:

    • High temperature
    • Continuous new cough
    • Loss of taste
    • Loss of smell

Please do not send your child in to school if they seem at all unwell or have any of the above symptoms.

If your child or anyone in your household develops symptoms, you will need to ensure they are tested.

You can book a test online at nhs.uk/ask-for-a-coronavirus-test or call 119.

Alternatively, there are currently test centres open at:

    • Evington Leisure Centre (mobile unit – drive through)
    • Victoria Park (mobile unit – drive through)
    • Spinney Hill Park (mobile unit – walk in)
    • Highfields Centre (walk in)
    • Birstall Park and Ride (permanent site – drive through).

If you have any concerns or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. Your child’s safety is our utmost priority. We will contact you as soon as we know anything more.

    Regards

    Sarah

  • Start of Term Date ALL parents

    Fri 26 Jun 2020

    Dear Parents/Carers,

    Autumn Term Return Date

I wanted to update you about the arrangements for the start of the new academic year 2020-2021. Currently, we are unable to determine what the Autumn term may look like at Oaklands and are still awaiting further advice from the Government. We open again on Tuesday 1st September, but at this point are still unable to determine whether this will be for all children or just some of the children. This is later than previously published term dates. The decision to delay the start of the school term has been made by the Local Authority, to enable schools in Leicester to plan for children to safely come back into school, putting in to place the practical measures that will be needed within the school building, and, preparing a different curriculum that ensures we respond appropriately and effectively to all children’s needs, many of whom may have been out of school for over five months. However, it is unclear yet what the Government guidance will be for children on site in September and what restrictions might still be in place, so we are unable to determine how many children we will be able to have in school each day from September 1st.

The steps being taken to ease lockdown in the UK are positive, although we still need to remain vigilant in our adherence to social distancing to prevent a second wave. We know that there are currently a high percentage of Covid 19 cases in and around Evington for example, and we must therefore ensure that we continue to minimise the risks for children and staff coming in to school both now and in September.

One thing we have all learned in recent weeks, is that guidance can change quite rapidly, and we will therefore be following Government advice closely before finalising our plans. We will, of course, keep you updated, and I would therefore ask you to keep a close eye on Weduc, the School website & your e-mails, particularly as we move into August. When plans are finalised, we will write to you again personally to communicate how we intend to open in September.

We all wish to see your children back at Oaklands as soon as possible, and appreciate that this has been a very difficult time. I will write again before the end of term, but for now, stay safe one and all.

    Regards

    Sarah

  • Home Learning Film Clips

    Wed 17 Jun 2020

There are new film clips to support parents/carers with home learning activities. These can be found in the Curriculum section under Home Learning.

We have also created a new area in the Curriculum section called Speech Sounds. If your child is in the Willow or Cherry Pathway, you may find it helpful to read the information then watch the film clips with your child to practice articulating individual sounds.
