  • Protocol Regarding the Oaklands Car Park

    Mon 01 Oct 2018

    Dear Parents / Carers,

I am writing to you to highlight some changes and ensure the safe flow of traffic in the car park at Oaklands. It can be a busy place at the beginning and the end of the school day and we would like to ensure that we continue to do everything possible make it a safe place for pedestrians and transport. We greatly appreciate your support in this matter.

You may have noticed that we have had the markings repainted on the car park, making parking spaces clearer and adding another disabled parking space.

There are arrows clearly indicating that when traffic enters the car park they should immediately turn left so that there is a flow of traffic. We ask that all transport adheres to this, rather than continuing straight on. Parking by the garage has often meant difficulties with traffic getting out of the car park, and sometimes cars/taxis reversing, which can lead to difficult/dangerous situations. We are therefore avoiding this by coning off that area at these busy times of the day.

We endeavour to have at least two members of staff in the car park in the morning and at the end of the day. We would ask that any parents dropping off and collecting children in cars would kindly observe these staff members in Hi Viz vests who may indicate when pedestrians are crossing or when vehicles are ready to move and respond accordingly. At times, this may mean waiting to move or for a safe place to park to become available. However, we do hope that parents will understand that a few minutes waiting is necessary to ensure the safety of all children and adults using the car park.

Please can we ask that you do not park on the corner/bend, at the far end of the car park, as it makes it difficult for traffic to get past.

We ask that you support us by being patient, understanding, and observing this protocol for all users of the car park to be safe.

    Yours sincerely,

    Sarah Osborne
    Headteacher
