  • Certificate of Commendation

    Tue 04 Jun 2019

    Dear Parents/Carers,

We are very proud to announce that we have received an Enhanced Practice Commendation from the National Autistic Society for Furthering the Knowledge of Autism. This commendation is not awarded to many schools nationally, and is therefore a fantastic achievement for Oaklands. The work undertaken to achieve this has been relating to developing staff understanding of Autism through training and performance reviews, but also our work to support other schools, professionals and organisations by sharing the school’s expertise.

I very much appreciate the hard work and commitment of our whole staff team to ensure that Oaklands is seen as a centre of excellence for supporting children with Autism or communication and interaction needs, and am so pleased to be able to share this good news with you.

    Yours sincerely,

    Sarah Osborne

For a non-verbal child, tune in to their body and face to see what they are 'saying'. Mirror movements & vocalisations, with some variations, to gain attention, building social connectedness and emotional sharing. #communication #autism #SEND #health
