Information for New Parents

Dear Parents/ Carers,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our school. We very much look forward to your child and your family becoming part of our Oaklands community.

Unfortunately, due to the measures that we currently have in school to respond to the Coronavirus, we are having to make alternative transition arrangements for this year.  However, we hope that you will be able to gain all the information you need over the next few weeks to help your child settle in during the Autumn term.  We also encourage you to call us towards the end of the summer term, if there is any additional information that you may need.  Our school number is 0116 2415921 or you can email

The transition arrangements will include:

  • Lots of information being shared on our website specifically for new parents including key information, welcome messages from the class teachers for your children to see and a virtual tour of the school.
  • A door step visit for you to meet senior staff from the school so that you can ask any questions that you may have.
  • A transition booklet that you can share with your child over the summer to help you prepare them.
  • A comprehensive admissions pack so that you can share all that important information with us.
  • A phased start at the beginning of the school year to help your child settle in to their new class.

Over the summer holidays our school is having some essential maintenance work carried out on our mobile classrooms.  We have been assured that this can still go ahead and that it should be completed in time for the new term.  However, the Coronavirus lockdown may affect the works schedule.  This could then have an impact on classrooms being ready and children starting back in August, so we will contact you nearer if this will affect your child’s start date.

We will contact you shortly regarding the door step visit, and look forward to meeting with you and your child.
