Squirrels

Welcome to Squirrels!

Spring 2018

At the beginning of the term Squirrels topic was ‘I Can Sing a rainbow’. We were exploring different colours s of the rainbow. We all had an opportunity to name the colours and make our own collage of a rainbow. The topic was linked with a story in literacy ‘Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See?’ All the children in Squirrels enjoyed listening to the story and join in the rhyming activity. The children sequenced the story correctly some independently and some with minimal support.

Our next topic for the term was ’Out and About, Visit to the cafe. In Squirrel’s class we set up a café corner for role play activities. Children enjoyed role playing exploring with small world toys. We made our own menus and role played using them. We then visited the Humber Stone Park café and used the menus we made to order our meal. All the children enjoyed our day out. The topic was linked with literacy sensory story ‘The Tiger who came to Tea’. The children made props for the story, role played and sequenced the story.

The second half of Spring term we are learning about Minibeasts. We have linked the topic with the ‘Incy Wincy Spider ‘story rhyme. Children joined in the singing of the rhyme with actions. In Squirrels class, we have explored our sensory garden using spades and magnifying glasses to find any minibeast for example worms. We have made our own classroom wormery looking forwards to finding worms. Zoolab company will be visiting Squirrels class with a variety of minibeast to give our children an opportunity to explore with a variety of minibeast.
